“Fitness Counts” – Seneca County, New York
The “Fitness Counts” project engaged youth in fun educational programs, activities and opportunities using exciting “high tech” equipment and new resources (including books, CD’s, posters, play station equipment and interactive eye toy games, 5 a Day props) for a range of grade and skill levels!
This project offered youth a chance to do a creative craft projects; incorporating art and woodworking skills as they made their own custom jump rope (just the right length for their size). Everyone was eager to “test” their jump rope upon completion! Portable, fun, safe fitness trail stations were organized.
“Fitness Counts” was introduced to elementary, intermediate, and middle school level students, including after-school programs, Head-Start youth and staff, recreational programs, and 4-H clubs, leaders and members. Activities and events were organized by a team of 4-H youth. The 4-H “Fitness Counts” team visited school field days, community and safety fairs, Empire Farm Days, and county and state fairs with the portable “Fitness Counts” trail.
